shower unit in mobile home?

I just looked at a job that the customer wants a tile shower unit in a mobile home, there is a tub surround and i can stabilise the joists for deflection purposes, the home is ancored by chain to the concrete slab underneith and its on cinderblocks, steel frame, but is there alot of wall to floor movement and this job is certain to fail? Thanks in advance.

Bill,

I've never installed tile in a mobile home. If you can keep it from moving too much it will work. Otherwise, it won't.

Well I dont want to say this too loud But I have tiled a mobile home. Several actually. We used 1/2" hardibacker on the floor. I have tiled a shower in one as well. As far as I know it still be there. The thing with a mobile box is they dont have 2x4's for studs they have 2x2's we had to rebuild the bathroom to make it work. good luck

getting back to this old post, Id recently gotten another call about this, home is on a slab and will never roll on wheels again but do these "trailers" 14X70 homes flex too much to have it work? I mean to have that kind of weight and what kind of joists are these usually made on?

the only way i'd do it, and I wouldn't...would be C Cure 916 mortar or kerabond/keralastic combo....

I don't think i'd warranty it for very long either.
