Cement Board Building Code

In the building code, are you required to install a cement board product for a tile floor in a kitchen?

Finish details are typically non-inspection times by the code authorities. That is defined in the details of the contract which should specify material to be installed per manufacturer instructions and applicable trade specification (list in contract).

The tile industry does have methods to install tile without the use of CBU which works IF you follow all of the instructions to the letter.

Welcome to the forum, Steve.

No, you’re definitely not required to use cement board. Building codes are generally not prescriptive. What makes you ask?
