Laundry Room - Floor Issue/Toilet Issue for Tiling

TOTALLY NEW TO HOMEOWNERSHIP, TILING, ETC.

I bought a home. It had some cheap laminate flooring that I started to rip as we decided to renovate the laundry room. The flooring appears to be old, beat up, uneven (unleveled), wooden planks. We were hoping to install new ceramic tiles.

I've added a photo.

Question 1
Do I rip the wood out and replace with plywood, then throw the cement board, and then the tiles?

Question 2
Theres a poorly placed toilet in the laundry room. How do I remove it, seal it, and place the new floor over it - as if it were never there?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Omar.

You have the general idea on tiling over what you have, but there are some particulars that need to be addressed.

Can you get the specifications on the floor joists and plug them into the Deflecto in the blue bar at the top of the page? Let us know what you come up with.

Generally speaking, you'll need a layer of plywood over the planks you have there. But tell us the specs on the planks (and the joists) so we can tell you what plywood to get.

As for the toilet, what kind of plumbing is it? Cast iron, ABS, PVC?
