Laticrete sheet membrane

I've done about a dozen Hydroban showers, but I like the idea of sheet membrane on the base. Does anyone know if I can use Hydroban sheet membrane just on the base and paint the corners, curb and walls?

Thats one of the reasons it was made for. so you can do a fresh mud pan and then install the HydroBan membrane and paint the walls.

I would like to see Laticrete make a fast curing floor mud

And your not required to use their inside and outside corners? Do they have any anything in writing that states that for warranty purposes? I've looked, but yet to find anything.

Really looking forward to getting a hold of some of this stuff. The mortar cure time is the main reason I stick with a sheet membrane.

Here are the rolls. We will be adding the corner pieces and a few other SKUs soon.

You can use the sheet membrane as the base and Hydroban over the walls. for the transition you would simply skim the sheet membrane and Hydroban transition with a modified thin-set and then Hydroban over to ensure continuous waterproofing.

The stuff seems to be installed similar to Kerdi, 2" overlap, they have corners and seaming tape and (only 3/4" and shower valve covers for now), so the available options are not as complete. The width is about the same as Kerdi, and maybe the same...they claim 39", Kerdi is 1M wide, or 39.37". THey list drywall as one acceptable underlayment, which may bring up the same arguments as with Kerdi, but then, they don't push it.

Maybe one of the bigger things is the overall thickness and perm rating - it's 0.06, while KerdiDS is closer to 0.35, but both are lower than the continuous use guidelines of <0.5.

I didn't see a specific recommendation on thinsets, but call for a thinset suitable for the material (need to read this more carefully).

I tried to buy Laticrete sheet membrane at Daltile today. After hitting on another employee for 10 minutes, the guy behind the counter just said "Nope". I think the DMV has better customer service.

Laticrete Hydro Ban Sheet Membrane

Did my second steam shower with this new membrane from Laticrete. Thanks to my rep for letting me field trial it. Seeing that regular Kerdi no longer meets the perm standard for steamers, you have to jump up to Kerdi DS. One problem. No distributors carry it here.
The HydroBan membrane is thicker than Kerdi but not as thick as Nobel TS. The biggest thing I noticed with this membrane is how it lays into the thinset and air pocketing is almost non existant. Air pocketing was my biggest complaint with Kerdi. Smooths out nicely. The best advantage this membrane has over Kerdi is the ability to use modified thinset ontop! You can also combine the membrane with the liquid Hydro Ban to do the ol Frankengueuze system. I think Laticrete has a winner here. So long Orange.
