sealing unfinished doors

I am helping my friend with remodel, his framer installed clad folding exterior door, douglas fir inside. Manufacturer requires door to be sealed on interior side within 5 days from installation to keep warranty. I offer my painter to do the job, but framer sent his guy. He brushed on one coat of:

Is it sealer? Does it do the job? The space is not conditioned yet....

I checked manufacturer web site, they do not allow to apply oil based stains (that is, reps. was the plan) over water based conditioner (which the "painter" used).

When I checked what water based stain Miniwax offers it says
............"Colors are mixed at the paint counter of most home centers and hardware stores"......
How it works, they will mix stain at store for me?
Are water stains any good?

Well the product you linked is not a sealer. It’s a strain prep product to help get more consistent or even staining.

So it seems you still need to seal the door surface. Staining before you apply sealer.

Water based stains should work fine. Just be sure to follow the instructions. Grain can lift after staining and may need sanding between various steps of the process of getting your finished door product.

I went to paint store before it happened to get best stuff possible. It's independent small store, a guy runs it forever, he knows the stuff. I told him I need to seal it and stain it later. He gave me

the miniwax thing doesn't say sealer...
Are we screwed? The door is $10k....

Have you asked the door manufacturer, Michal?

My wood door manufacturers have always required the doors to be sealed on all six sides and would accept a stain as the required sealer. I've always used oil-based stains, but that was not specified.

Sounds and reads like the last one you linked would work ok. The first one you linked is probably better than nothing. Their not going to want to be held libel for any problems you have so no surprise that they will not recommend something.

Keep in mind what CX is pointing out. All 4 edges and both sides. Many people seem to forget the top and bottom.

Try calling manufacturers. Sherwin williams, Pittsburgh paint. What ever brands of products you have locally. Their trouble shooting and spec departments are for advise on problems like yours. $10 k door? Wow

I called manufacturer today, they said it's not a sealer and they do not recommend to use it for such application.
I talked to my friend, he said they (him and framer) actually called paint store (large, established chain, good higher end products), they sent their rep on site!, he came and recommended product.....

I told him to crank up heater, slowly.....

Stain is not sealer. And always do all 6 sides.....stain & seal or prime an topcoat.
