trimless door installtion

I am doing home remodel, modern style. HO want me to do, resp. like my ideal of "trimless" door installation and baseboards flush with drywall.

Looks like we will be using flat door (painted grade) in custom jambs 1" thick douglas fir (stained grade) as well as baseboards.

Looks Pita, but straight forward. I always wanted to do it, customer is detailed oriented, must be Perfect...

Anyone here has experience with it?

I’ve never used is but should be a very nice look. Tricky bit will be maintain this consistent reveal like in the video by Matt Risinger. Glad to see you are using the aluminum bead; vinyl would be a bear.

As a tile pro, I imagine you have experience cutting aluminum edging simaulter to Schluter jolly.. You can get a very nice miter but man those chips are painful. Full face shield is essential.

This type of installation is time consuming and shows every little imperfections. There's no room for caulk... Every 1/16" counts and starts with framing... I will post some pictures when I am done.

Few tips:

Use 5/8" drywall. I checked all framing with straight edge, planed down bowed out studs, but after drywall was installed, some areas were proud. I had to cut out few sections and replaced with 1/2" drywall. Can't be done if 1/2" drywall is used. 5/8"is also more stiff.

Use 1/2" reglet trim. 5/8" drywall works with 1/2" trim, you can't see difference.

Foam around door jambs - lights goes through between jambs and reglet trims.

I’ve seen that look installed before, I’m sure it’s tedious.

Have you seen Ariavents? Might save you some work next time, they now make a drywall version with corner bead. Has a similar look once finished.

How’s that do with seasonal changes? In my area, the difference in humidity from winter to summer causes some significant changes in wood dimensions even with indoor climate control. I’d expect to see some gapping or buckling depending on when in the cycle it was installed, at least here. It does have a clean look, but close tolerance to install.

It looks in the picture that there’s a metal trim around the wooden door jamb. I was referring to the affects of the different expansions of the dissimilar materials. Very likely not enough to be of any concern, but I can’t say for sure.
