Slate tile grouting

I've got some uneven slate tile that I want to grout, but I know it's too uneven to use the squeegee or whatever that tool is called that I used on ceramic tile. I can only assume that there is another tool that will work in its place. I've come up with a couple ideas, and they might not be worth trying, so I am hoping you can tell me the best way to get the grout in and not all over the slate. Thanks!

Maybe a grout float?

Or a grout bag, which I think is a waste of time.

Seal the slate, then grout small sections at a time, don't get ahead of yourself, have a toothbrush handy also, you'll need it.

I've used a grout float on some purty rough tiles.

I'd use a grout float too....and definitely seal that slate first.

Hi JKendall, Welcome!

We're missing a first name here.

We generally use a grout float on slate also. Try to concentrate on packing the joints only vs. spreading over the entire tile.

Presealing also helps.

What kind of slate do you have?
