Yes, I saw it on the news and we were quite concerned for my husband's aunt who lives in that area. We're still trying to get through to her.

im about 300ks away and was woken up by it, as far as i know no one was killed but there have been serious injuries, the govmt reckons there is a couple of billion of damage

I was listening the first news, it said the earthquake was stronger than in Haiti, I am glad no one died..... I spent 4 months in Christchurch - beautiful city.

lots of new houses on concrete slabs have broken up and lots of older brick buildings have fallen apart, drains and watermains destroyed, roads ripped apart luckily most people were at home at the time or many would have been killed on the footpaths by falling masonry, The recession is over for the building trade as tradesmen from around the country flood into Christchurch to help with repairs

Wiley and I were at Candlestick Park San Francisco (for the World Series) in 1989 when the Loma Prieta hit...a 7.1 quake. Eventually arrived home south of SF to witness what Mother Nature brought forth.
We feel so bad for everyone dealing with the aftermath of this. The aftershocks are sometimes worse than the major event.
