Might wanna give us more hints on the question.
Is this application a tub or shower or......? And if you don't care to use Kerdi over the Hardibacker for waterproofing, tell us why you're against it so we don't suggest more of the same that you object to.

Plumbers and tile setters around hear never heard of Kerdi. That being said,if they are not using this system then what is the alternative?
BTW: I am planing to remove PVC shower[on a slab] and use tile.

yes, on the kerdi web site. Its not really complete enough to do a kerdi shower per se.... Have you read John Bridge's kerdi book?

I eas on this site about a year ago,and i thought i saw a step by step picture demo of a shower install using Kerdi. Is John Bridge's book very informative? I need lots of pictures. I would like to use a PVC pan,but i can't find the correct size so i will have someone put down a mortar base.

Phil,
The Kerdi Shower Book is worth the 10 bucks, believe me. I bought it and I had no idea what I was doing. Between that book and his "Tile Your World" book and the support and advice I received here I completed a total master bath remodel.
With a little practice you can do a mud base. It isn't as intimidating as it seems. Sand and cement is pretty cheap so practice in the garage can be time and money well spent.

I will buy his book. Does it explain how to install the base? My concern is the Kerdy drain. How high from the slab. Also how thick at the drain, and how much of a slope.I also remember something about a pre-slope,than the final slope.I hope all of this is explained in Johns book.

Phil~ Part of the beauty of the Kerdi system is that there is no preslope required.
