Las Vegas Alone!!

Hello folks, Hoping anyone here can give me any info on visiting Las Vegas. You see my idiot sister is treating herself to a trip to Las Vegas soon , by herself. Why she is going alone is beyond me. I've already commented as to why she shouldn't go, which included many 4 letter words but she is going anyway.
She is one of those people that will talk too, and trust anyone so her being alone in a strange city, let alone a different country is a dumb idea.
Its not even the fact that she is going to Las Vegas in particular, it's more of the fact that she is going alone.

i think that she may be going there to meet someone but who knows. I told my mom that she'll probably be found naked and dead in the desert which only scared her more. I probably shouldn't have said that.

I know nothing of the place, so i was wondering if anyone here is familar with the city or lives there that can give me some info so I can pass it on to her.

I can't stress enough that she is the type to talk too and trust total strangers. In saying that, NO, I will not give you the name of the hotel that she will be staying at. HA.

Randy,

First off, Vegas isn't in a foreign country. It's in the U.S., same as Canada.

Second, is she of age? If so, she's gonna do what she wants.

Third, if you're so worried, go with her. Make it when Surfaces is going on and we'll see you there.

Sin City

Randy,

Well, if it's any consolidation there are a lot of really good churches in Las Vegas. My wife and I were suprised of the selection we found. And not sleepy little nothings eithes, vibrant ministries.

They say ya only look for recovery when ya finally hit rock bottom. Guessin if ya wanta hit rock bottom Las Vegas is a good place to go.

Tell you sister there are a lot of "life giards" in the L.V. Yellow Pages.

TT

As far as i know shes not looking for any rock or anyones bottom as far as I know. She's just looking for a good time I think, which I have no problem with, just wish it wasen't so far.

make sure you tell her to stay on the strip. You can run into trouble real quick if you venture out of the normal tourist areas.

I'll second what Joe said. The strip is pretty safe overall, and downtown Vegas is pretty safe as well(I'm old school and prefer to stay downtown). My sister sounds a little like yours, and I'd be worried if my sis went to vegas alone as well, although I don't think she's sure enough of herself to do that.

IMO, the only thing that keeps us safe and out of trouble is good 'ole common sense.

I trying to determine if your main issue is chaperoning sis or your just jealous she's there alone instead of you being there alone?????????

It's definately a fun place.

You may wish to encourage her to see the magnificient natural parks in the general area. I'm talking some good amount of driving but all well worth it. Incomparable.

It sounds like she is at a point in her life where for whatever reasons her guard might be down. There are people not just in vegas but everywhere that prey on that. But in vegas it is tenfold. You just have to be mindful of everything and if something feels wrong it probably is. I know that goes for everywhere else as well but in Vegas you have to be even more aware.
I am not trying to scare you but if you have doubts about letting her go before then maybe you should just go with her

OK, I understand that you don't want to advertise what hotel she is staying in, but can you say whether it is on the strip, or downtown, or somewhere else?

The strip is pretty safe and well patrolled. She could spend an entire trip there and never leave the area.

Downtown is safe in the casino area and heavily patrolled. But if you wander a few blocks outside of the area, you are in some high-crime areas, especially at nite.

Regardless of where she stays, there are lots of family (g-rated) things to do. It isn't all just sin city type things. We love to take side trips to the Utah Canyons, its about half an hour to Hoover dam, and 6 hours to the Grand Canyon.

We have taken foreign exchange students there several times and we would not take 16 year old girls to the place if it wasn't safe. As someone else said, just tell her to stay in the tourist places and all should be well.
