Lookin for jobs in Gainesville FL

Actually I live in Keystone Heights.

I have 25 years experience and a lot of satisfied customers behind me. Also most of the tools I need (but my big wet saw is in the pawn shop in Melrose and my little one died ) I'll work directly for homeowners, or for other tile setters, or flooring shops--need I say more?

Hope its okay to post this here. I've got jobs on the horizon but I need something right now.

Phone # is 352 682 6788

Have a nice day everybody.

Last time I checked with Teal they weren't too busy--but they didn't sound as discouraged as, say, Tile Craft in Gainesville. I'll check back with them again soon.

In the meantime--I have a floor to install tomorrow!

Have a good day everybody

Mike,
I feel your pain. Up here in our area, the guys with over 20 years experience in the "biz" are sitting home. Take a look at the post "Look What I Saw" and you will see the work being done out there right now. I guess we have to hang in there for now. One of the frustrations I have is, out of the 11 bids I have done over the last few weeks, not one customer wanted to see my license, insurance certificate, pictures of my work, or references. Just price.

Dave, I guess you're not pre-qualifying your prospects. If I even get a hint that someone is shopping price I let them know right up front that I'm not going to win the bidding war. Saves a few trips.

Also, I think that now more than ever you've got to make your impression right off the bat. When you advertise or when you first communicate with a prospect you've got to somehow set yourself apart from the rest. You've got to do that up front. You won't have an opportunity to do it latter on in the process. I'm making it sound easy, and I know it's not, but beating your head against a wall is a waste of time.

Thanks for the words of encouragement John. I do the pre-qualifying. The one problem is people have learned how to answer our questions to give you the impression of a serious customer. Right now the economic climate out here is bad. Any of my friends who have 20+ years in the biz are sitting home. The supply houses are ghost towns. The only installers coming in are the "hacks" or the illegals. Builders who do have work are pitting installers off of each other. Guys are going to work every day thinking they are making money but in the real scope of things, they loose money the minute they start their trucks. The sad thing is that customers are getting work that might last a couple of years.
Just a note...over the last 11 bids, all my showers were Schluter Kerdi ones. (the only way I'll do a shower) 3 of those were steam showers. I know for a fact that the steamers are being done with Densheild and Red Guard. Ahh future repair work!
