Laying tile over a bathroom marble countertop

can you lay tile over a bathroom marble counter top and if so which adhesive is the best , or grout and so on ...?

I guess you could with a good modified thinset, rough sand the marble first, incase of any sealers, I would remove it and start fresh though.

If you are talking about cultured marble, I would take it out and install plywood. Yes, you can do it, as Richie mentions, but you can tell he's not really enthused, can't you?

I thought you would say " start over " but I didn't want to totally discard the counter top but if starting over is the best thing I will.
