Are you part of the solution or.....

Us Americans are a whiny bunch. There is no subject we won't complain about i.e.; sports, race, politics, our spouses, etc. Perhaps, no other subject boils our blood more than the costs of fuel. And rightfully so.
Every administration from Carter on down has sold us (the American people) down the pike when it came to reducing our dependence on foreign fossil fuels. How many of you went through the roof when gas hit $3.00 a gallon? If you raised your hand, you are part of the majority.
Ok, next question; what have you done to help alleviate the situation?
Do you adhere to posted speed limits or do you drive 10-20 mph over the speed limits as most Americans do?
Do you take your foot of the gas as soon as you see a red light ahead, regardless of how far the light it is or do you race to the light, so the person next you doesn't get ahead of you? Do you use your cruise control when driving on the highway?
Do you carpool, if its possible and practical? Do you check the air pressure of your tires on a regular basis?
If you answered no to all or most of those questions, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!
If every person in the US, drove within 5 miles of the posted speed limits, eased off the pedal when the lights turned red, drove in a safe manner, and took better care of their vehicles, we would dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign (mostly Arab) oil.
Furthermore, thousands of lives would be saved every year, the burden on our health care system would drop as would the burden on the insurance industry, putting even more money in our pockets.
Of course, Mobil-Exxon does not want this information to get out. The reduction in their profits would be staggering. You remember Mobil-Exxon, don't you? They are the ones that have been raping you each and every day.
This message has been brought to you by Tile Rite; Winston-Salem's premier energy-saving contractor. Have a nice day and, drive safe!!

Hey Rick,
We do all those things because we think it's important to use as little gas as we can.. and helping save the environment is important to us too.. and I always put the HUMMER in cruise when we're on the road..

I guess since I am a motorsports enthusiast, I am a part of the problem. I eat a lot of red meat, like guns and enjoy pretty much anything with a fast motor that has wheels or goes on the water or snow. Fast cars, bikes and big trucks especially. At least I sold one of my mustangs so I guess that may have helped a little. It was the most gas efficient of the 3 however. Well actually my bike, even though it will do almost 180mph, is the most fuel efficient thing I own. Guess I gotta ride the bike more often.

Removing subsidies on sugar and tarrifs on foreign sugar would increase the supply of sugar cane, a more efficient source of ethanol than corn. And I regret to inform you that Congress, and quite a few of my own Democratic Party refuse to realize this because of the big sugar lobby.

This special interest issue cuts right across party lines.

Thats funny, Frank. I kind of figured I was leaving myself open for a response like that. Oh well, I do drive an Avalanche, so I guess I'm part of the problem too. Can't run a tile business out of a VW.

Ya think they could pack a tile saw around, a roll of ditra, and a couple hundred pounds of mud? Imagine what THEY could fit in a veedub.

Probably take less than a mile to get a ticket if I loaded my Harley down like that. Of course, if I explained to the cop that I was doing my part to save on oil, he'd tear it up. Yeah, right. Good pitchers.

Well in my younger, more animated days, anything is possible. Of course now that I am older and wiser, I just stick to recycling the bottles.

Of course some around here might argue with me about the wiser part anyway.
