Us Americans are a whiny bunch. There is no subject we won't complain about i.e.; sports, race, politics, our spouses, etc. Perhaps, no other subject boils our blood more than the costs of fuel. And rightfully so.
Every administration from Carter on down has sold us (the American people) down the pike when it came to reducing our dependence on foreign fossil fuels. How many of you went through the roof when gas hit $3.00 a gallon? If you raised your hand, you are part of the majority.
Ok, next question; what have you done to help alleviate the situation?
Do you adhere to posted speed limits or do you drive 10-20 mph over the speed limits as most Americans do?
Do you take your foot of the gas as soon as you see a red light ahead, regardless of how far the light it is or do you race to the light, so the person next you doesn't get ahead of you? Do you use your cruise control when driving on the highway?
Do you carpool, if its possible and practical? Do you check the air pressure of your tires on a regular basis?
If you answered no to all or most of those questions, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!
If every person in the US, drove within 5 miles of the posted speed limits, eased off the pedal when the lights turned red, drove in a safe manner, and took better care of their vehicles, we would dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign (mostly Arab) oil.
Furthermore, thousands of lives would be saved every year, the burden on our health care system would drop as would the burden on the insurance industry, putting even more money in our pockets.
Of course, Mobil-Exxon does not want this information to get out. The reduction in their profits would be staggering. You remember Mobil-Exxon, don't you? They are the ones that have been raping you each and every day.
