2 X 4 Shower Curb With Kerdi And Schluter Shower Pan

Looking for some advice,

#1 When building the shower curb with three stacked 2x4's should i wrap this with drywall and then the kerdi membrane?

#2 Is it right to use steel corner beads and mud to finish the the outside corners of the drywall inside the shower and if not how should i finish the outside corners of the drywall.

More questions to follow probably.

thanks

How bout a first name?

I like to use cement backerboard over the curb framing. I suppose you could use drywall but it lacks enough "crush-proofness" for my liking. I would not use drywall mud or corners under a membrane..it's just gonna turn to goop.

Just use Wonderboard or Hardi or any other CBU and nail or screw it to the 2x's I like to use thinset to bed the wonderboard in over the lumber just to fill any unsupported voids.

Trask,

This is Bob,

I agree with the 'crush proofness' of the drywall and was thinking that it would be possible to just wrap the kerdi membrane over the three 2x4's and go from there.

Hey Bob,

No...Schluters stuff is good, but not that good . Cement Board then Kerdi is the way to go.
