Tile backsplash on (gasp) plywood?

Looking to finally complete backsplash at cabin. Looks like our OSB/Plywood backer might be a problem. Taking it off or replacing is not an option. Any advice is welcomed. Tile are concrete.

Hello Kay and welcome. Generally tiling directly over plywood creates problems as the plywood expands and contracts. You can "decouple" the tile with paint-on products (RedGuard etc.) or applied membranes (Ditra etc.) or attach cement backer board.

If your cabin is unheated some times and subject to freezing you might want to consider the above methods. However since it's a backsplash (not a floor or wet area) you could probably use a good quality modified thinset like Flexbond directly on the plywood.
