Exterior brick cleaning quickie.........

Bout this time last year my son and I built a low veneer redbrick wall on my shop.

Well... what with hot weather, adult beverages and a short mud fight... we ended up with as much mortar on the brick face as we did in the joints and... WE NEVER CLEANED IT WELL. Now that he coming fer a visit I'd like to sic him on that wall to clean mortar off the face brick..

What's our best shot fer doing this well.. some product or secret potion and...
where kin I git it or it’s ingredients.

What I got fer tools that I think may help are wire brushes, a monster power washer, a puny sand blaster and a bucket of elbow grease.

Thanks all

Dave, I was able to get some REALLY OLD flecks of mortar off the outside brick before we enclosed our sunroom with a high pressure washer. If I kept the stream at a very shallow angle to the brick, most of the mortar and all of the other crud came right off. Worth a try at least.

Thanks Clyde.....

I'll sure try it.

Did you know (or know of) Maynard Ramsey of the U of MD? He was a bugman's bugman and a member of my fish & game club. He passed about two months ago.

Dave, I can't place him. Any idea what area of entomology he worked in? I was mostly in insect management on landscape ornamentals, turfgrass, and fruit crops.

Lightbulb I have just the cure

There actually is a magic potion. It is muriatic acid and can be purchased at any hardware/home improvement store. I got it for less than a few dollars for a gallon. You have to wear gloves and perhaps a mask and/or eye protection but it works very well. The acid and a wire brush will work wonders for you!!

Good luck!
