To push mud around,and to pack it,I use a mag,and I also use a fiberglass resin float. The fiberglass resin float is just a tad bigger than a mag,and it's great for rubbing up(as it doesn't wear down over time,like wood floats will)prior to slicking the surface with a mag and/or a steel trowel.

The fiberglass resin float is 1 of the best investments in mud tools I've made,IMO! Have had the same 1 for over 15 years,compared to probably over 20 wood floats I've had,in the same time period.

Anyone else here use a fiberglass resin float for packing/ruubing up?

That cauffered ceiling is awesome! I used to work along a carpenter that would build those all the time...always amazed me. Very nice shower floor too, thanks for sharing

damn how'd he cut those circular insets? I hope he drilled those with a hole saw - cause if there is a person capable of freehanding that on a grider or wetsaw I may just cry myself to sleep tonight.

Also Kyle that cieling is impressive. alot of thought goes into planning the can lights to fit layout huh?

Was wondering why you just didn't frame the ceiling with 2x8's instead of the custom made brackets?

Jim - dimensional lumber (2x6's) may have worked - but finding lumber that straight would probably be impossible. The method I used I got from a Fine Homebuilding article...http://www.finehomebuilding.com/how-...-ceilings.aspx

I used the LASH system for the first time on this project. Tuscan is just too expensive for my limited tiling, especially large format. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about sore thumbs for. If you wiggle the wedge in it really doesn't hurt much.

Never done circle dots like that but being in the corner I would think they would be all the difficult to drill. Just go slow and steady so you don't chip the marble all up. Looks great Thauss..

This is what we've been finishing up plus another master shower. Back splash in Fallbrook, CA was designed with 4x4 Tumbled Ivory from Emser Tile and a mural from Stone Impressions in San Diego. And the kicker is the grout color I mixed on site to the customer preference. Ended up being 5:1 Canvas to Rose Beige Custom's grout.

Hey Everybody

Here are some pics of a Backlit onyx fireplace surround that I am working on.
Once again we used the Nu World LED panel for this project, we had it custom built in the same shape as the onyx slab and even had a 3/8" hole drilled in the panel for the damper cord.
We have it on a dimmer and it is amazing how the stone changes as you make it brighter or dimmer.
