Speaking of realistic wood knots:

My first shot at a barn door effect in a plank shower. I drew it out on the wall first to see if it would work with the niche. The niche was a 2X6 wall so deeper than normal but not outside wall. The outside of the wall is actually a king king size garage two stories high, they have lots of toys. I had granite accents made for niche shelf and curb but used tile since I didn't want to take the barn effect away.

CX the rumors are not true I am living the dream, literally.

For the plank shower barn door it was the perfect storm. The customer called and said the builder left out the tile shower in the master so I stepped up and did it for her, she picked the materials from my distributor and was open to a feature wall. Once I drew it out I knew it could work, the dimensions were good and the niche intersected perfectly.

As for me I have had a change in my life in a gal named Jen. Here she is working in my shop which I have been working on the last 2 years. I did a splash over my workbench and a 3D feature wall, with flat screen on. I let her use them both to come up with something for the mud platform we did for the pellet stove. This to bring both designs together and then we dry layer it and she went back home to Annapolis. Really didn't matter what she came up with it was more important that she put her hands on it and helped me install it. Big back story here I won't get into but she has added so much happiness to my life and mine to hers. Never thought this was possible but it happened.

Only downside to that is I don't yet see Ms. Jen registered here on the forums, Jon.

True but that was her first tile job ever, and you more importantly have a pic of her so you can spot her. Speaking of spotting are you still doing that with owls

Well, since I've not been back to Pennsylvania for some decades, I'm unlikely to spot her, Jon, but it would please me to do so.

And yes, I still go out to New Mexico to take inventory on some of your Mexican Spotted Owls for a couple months every Spring. At your expense, of course.

Just went and took photos of a fireplace I completed a couple weeks ago.
It was mother of pearl sheets full height to the 20 foot ceiling and 2 sides.
Haven’t been on a scaffolding for a long time so that was quite an adventure

I've been on a backsplash tear all of last year and this year.
Seems like with people inside last year everyone wanted a backsplash done.
It's been backsplash installation crazy in the Tampa and Land O Lakes area for sure.

Here's one I did a few weeks ago in Bexley with a 3x12 La Belle Purity tile set subway pattern.
Also a small wet bar area using a 3" hexagon glass mother of pearl look.
They wanted me to tie in the hex with the backsplash so I made a small framed area behind the cook-top.

They loved it!

A layout and setting challenge, customer picked the dual colored hex and pattern. Testing the layout I realized I would have to be very intentional about how they landed at the door, ended up doing a full dry layout to a row before the heat register, then marking out the layout on a ledger strip (in case I bumped them after I wouldn't be able to see the chalk line). Was definitely worth taking some extra time up front.

Oh and to make things even more fun, they asked for epoxy grout. Doing a full batch of spectralock solo was "fun".
