thinset between pebble tile instead of grout

I am tiling my shower with honed crema marfil and I installed a 6" boarder of pebble tile. The border was sandwiched between a chair rail and a pencil molding. I went heavy on the thinset and it squeezed thru the pebbles and so I just decided to float it out as if it were grout. The look is fine but I am concerned with sealing it now. Are there any special products that would do a better job to seal the thinset?

I have noticed that the crema absorbs water rather readily when I sponged it down. Any advice on the best product for the tile as well? My plan was to use Miracle SuperSeal or Dupont Bulletproof (water base) which I can buy nearby, the price is similar.

I also built a niche and will tile the bottom shelf with crema as well as a half wall between the shower and tub which will be topped with the crema. These will have some standing water on them at times. Is there a better treatment for these horizontal surfaces to make them more water proof?

Will post some picts and thanks for all the advice I garnered from reviewing a lot of posts on this board.

Hi John,
I predict that the thinset is going to turn white after repeated use (even if sealed) due to (what I believe to be) a higher content of latex and cement. I could be wrong and someone that may have experience may chime in, but that's my guess. You could use something like a Dremel tool to get the thinset if you are beginning to doubt. As far as sealers go, I think you'll find a solvent based sealer to last longer for standing water. Looking forward to the pics, sounds like a cool design.

wall tiled, floor tiled, but what about baseboard?

Looking for some ideas. Have tiled a portion of my bathroom walls and I am about to tile floor. Used crema wall tiles and will use crema mosaic for the floor. Is baseboard necessary ? Do you guys normally make baseboard out of cut crema tiles or should I just butt up the mosaic to the wall tiles?

Thanks
John

Purely aesthetic consideration, John. Generally best to do whatever looks good to Mrs. John.

This all part of the bathroom from last fall? Like to get it all gathered together here on one thread if so.

John,
What size tile do you have on the wall?
What size (unless it is whole) is the cut at the bottom of the wall?
What size is the base, outside the bathroom, in the rest of the house?
Do you have a way to profile a piece of base?

Answering with questions...

Yes this is still project from last fall ...sigh
Working one day a weekend doesn't get it done.
Luckily the boss is very understanding and is pleased with the work so far.

I would like to take some picts this weekend and post to maybe help other newbies who might think to undertake a complete bathroom remodel on their own.
