Walk-In shower design issues - 1/2 wall and shower head

So I've been reading the other threads and it raised two questions for me. I am building a walk-in shower that is 44 inches wide by 66 inches long (a rectangle basically). I was going to have a 1/2 wall with a glass splash guard on top along the 66" side and my first question is; when building a 1/2 wall that will be tiled how do you make sure it has the sturdiness and integrity it needs to hold the glass splash guard? (I was planning on framing it with 2x4s) it is going to be 60 inches tall x 36'' wide (basically the size of one sheet of durarock) ...and my second question - which I saw in another posting is - which is the BEST place to put the shower controls. this is a walk-in shower without a door so originally i thought place the shower head at the far end of the opening, BUT then i saw someone's comment that if I do that i'll have to walk into the shower to turn it on and get blasted with cold water....yikes - thoughts, suggestions, ideas?

You definitely need the controls at the entrance, maybe in the knee wall.You mean the knee wall is 5 ft. high and 3 ft. long?It will butt into a wall on one end obviously,but will it be against a tub deck, if so that will help brace it.Also2x6 is sturdier.
