25% of their products are made in the USA. Its a lot better than the other major shoe manufacturers can say.

I agree that unions are a mixed bag, but certainly played an important role in the last century. In my truck driver era I worked both as a union (Teamsters) and non-union driver and frankly the non-union employers treated us better. The Teamsters didn't really seem too interested in our welfare, just in getting their monthly dues.

afa shoes, I was working in El Salvador at the time ('92/93) that Florsheim moved their manufacturing there. Unemployment was over 50% at the time and average labor wage was $2 to $3 per day so several thousand new jobs at $5/day were considered a hot commodity and a livable wage by local standards. Given the extreme poverty of a good part of the population it was hard to consider them exploited or resent them the jobs. For comparison at the time I was being paid $8000/mo by the US gov + $80/day living expense (food/rent), but day to day living expenses were very low there.

My work boots are "Made in the USA"............"With imported materials".

They are Redwings, and they were a lot more than $5.00 more than other brands. Something's better than nothing.

There are still a few companies that manufacture shoes in the United States.

I agree with Scooter on one thing, honor the workers of this country this weekend, myself, and most of you on this forum included.

In fact, I have a six pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in the fridge right now, and plan to do some honoring starting at 12:01pm today.

Yeah, and it took me years to get there!

Hey, how come I'm the only one who has a problem with these companies going to third world countries, setting up plants, paying the workers rubbish wages, dumping crap into the environment.....and I still have to pay $175 for the stinkin shoes? Sump'n ain't right there. I don't buy into this "better that nothing" scenario for the workers. If you keep them at bare minimum, they won't ever have the assets to create new jobs on their own for other people not working at these plants. If we got paid like that, we would only have the essentials of life, and there would be no extra money to buy anything that would create new jobs or opportunities for others.

Exactly. This is where I begin to sicken when listening to folks like Rush Limbaugh. While I consider myself conservative, I dont agree that people can pave a better road for themselves, when there isnt ground beneath them for paving.

22 years Teamster proud, FULL Medical, Dental, free lawyers, Annuity, Overtime pay, night differential and Vacation, highest paid drivers in the industry to boot.

Pension, Annuity payment and medical after retirement, GO UNION.

The non Union driver doing the same, get's half the pay, works more hrs, no pension, no medical, maybe a cheap plan from some of the greedy owners and NOTHING to look forward to when he steps down, easy choice, ISN'T IT.

3 more years to go, 25 gives me full retirement package, can stay on longer or switch to tiling full time for awhile longer, then off to the gulf course and out on the boat, the nice new one my annuity will pay for.

Unless you have your own business, best way to go, never spend half your life working for someone else and get nothing in return.

Let's not forget, that your union has used your dues over the years, to buy investments/shares in companies that make huge profits on $175 shoes, made by people who get no benefits and are paid diddley. Then they pass that profit on to you/us. The world is whacked. And we think we abolished slavery?

Yes, I am having a bad day...thanks for asking.

My boots are Union made.

There's good and bad with everything, you can't make everyone happy, that's life.

Out here in Orygun no one would even consider anything other than 100% made in USA (Oregon in fact) handcrafted Wesco boots. Worth every penny.

"My boots were union made" Made by a "made guy" maybe?

In my experience, unions are nothing more than organized crime. Back in the day when unions were started, they were needed to help the poor laborers. These days its just politicians stuffing their pockets full of cash.

Made in USA means just that, made in USA. If the work is done overseas, no union is going to change that.

Buy american made to keep jobs here, union or not.
