Neil....
Lowes handles USG alkali resistant fiberglass tape which you should us at your CBU seams.... and imbed it with the same thinset your gonna use to set your tiles with. Be sure you have some blocking behind each CBU seam.
You should find this tape at Lowes in the same area you find HardiBacker.
Don't forget to use a vapor barrier.

Yes Sir! I'll put 4 mil poly behind it. Thanks for the brand, that really helps a lot.

Dave,
Do you mean a situation when there is no stud behind the seam to put some blocking behind the seam?

Right Andriy.....
If that ends up being Neil's case when he installs his CBU.... any new seams should be supported. Blocking works for horizontal seems... sistering may be required for vertical ones.
If TYW pros have a different take on this…. Listen to em.
Hope this helps

Andriy, just noticed you have 8 different threads going on with this shower now. There most likely is a lot of background information sprinkled throughout all those which is going to get lost moving forward. With limited time and many new posts to respond to we simply don't have time to backtrack, look up, and spin through all those past threads. All that puts us at a big disadvantage trying to help you.
Tell you what, best to keep all this stuff together now, you hear?

Thanks Dave
Mike,
I don't really have 8 threads going, maybe the person who started this thread: v1rtu0s1ty does, I don't know.
I was just curious about blocking, so I asked Dave.

Just for completeness, if the black area was just a small stripe only where the pipe touched the wood it could be oxide from the copper pipe. Cupric oxide is black.

See?!?!? 8 threads going simultaneously, and Mike can't keep up with who started what!
Of course, it may have something to do with all them old brain cells he's been usin'.

Ha your right Audriy and I am sorry about that. I ment to address all that to our other friend v1rtu0s1ty. I saw his name pop up right up there and though this was another one of his.
I can see now it was just a Reply he made to your very clean, tidy, all together, excellent example of what thread should look like.

Perfectly normal. The back side of the pipe isn't accessable to the torch without inadvertantly burning some of the 2x. So the wood takes a beating while the coupling is heated up enough to proceed with the sweating of that joint. Everything is good. Nothing at all that could possibly be wrong.

I would like to apologize to everyone. I just got used to creating new post or thread when I'm asking a topic different from the subject I created. Thanks for merging it.
EDIT: While I'm doing my bathroom rebuild every evening, I would like to get up to speed with rebuilding kitchen countertops with granite tiles during daytime break in the office. I've seen some pictures and they're awesome. Can someone please point me to a link which teaches how to build a countertop? My curiousity is in creating rounded edges and the hole in the sink.
