If you don't want to move the stud, you can use elbows to run your shower riser (vertical pipe) up the side of the stud. At the height you want the shower head to be, cut a notch in the front portion of the stud, about an inch and a half into it. You can use a couple more elbows to get your shower arm to come right out the front of the stud.
The bar for the adjustable shower head is mounted vertically to one side or the other of the shower arm. If you are simply using a hand shower (with a flex hose), it mounts directly to the shower arm.
