Shower rebuild

Being new to this site, took me a good thirty minutes to figure out what the heck a thread was! You professionals sure do talk funny. Now that I've mastered that, I should have no trouble whatsoever with the shower!

First question (many to follow I'm sure)... On the services site, John mentions using PVC material for the pan. I built a pan once about 10 years ago (different house) and used the rubber membrane. PVC is new, at least to me. So I took the journey to Home Depot, lowes and a few tile store to inquire. Needless to say, mostly what I got was the deer in the headlight look when I asked about using PVC for the pan. They all said use the membrane material.

Which is #1 better, #2 easier, and #3 lasts longer? I hope to be staying in this house longer and dont want to do this again.

The 2 common pan liner materials are PVC and CPE. PVC is more readially available at the big box stores (Lowes and HD). Both will outlive you. So, go back and stare those deers down and get the liner material they have and have at it. Don't forget the dam corners and glue. You may really have a problem with that. Don't worry, they are available on-line if it comes to that. The box stores sometimes have kits which have a couple of corners in it. If your shower isn't much larger than a standard shower, the kit will do the job.

thanks Bob, nobody said it would be easy. Guess I should mention its at 32" X 48" shower. Not too big, not too small, seemed standard to me. I'll be headed back there.
