Best way to seal this

Going with Kerdi over drywall, discovered a clean out in the middle of shower footprint. Best way to seal and provide plumbing access? As of now am going to run the kerdi withought cutting out the hole. Thoughts, approved methods, good ideas are well appreciated. Proposing in my mind to slit cut it and kerdi fix the diameter, place the clean out cover with a bead of kerdi fix on its inner circumference.

Chris, how much trouble will it be to pull off the metal and turn it around? I wouldn't want that in my shower. Is this your house or a job of yours?

Turn it around. That's too close to the pan to leave it open and frankly you don't want that mess in your shower.

There isn't a good way to make that access panel waterproof, especially if you want to make it look good.

Thanks everyone, was pretty skeptical if this could be done and be functional. This is at a commercial property for a local business. It’s a retrofit job replacing rotted out vinyl faced masonite panel shower walls. Shower is used about once a week. I plan to tile as if the clean out wasn’t there and bring a plumber in on the outside to see if it can be flipped around. Wonder why they would put the clean out so low? Every other commercial job I’ve been on has had the clean outs around 4’6” AFF. Here it is with the kerdi up.

If the clean out is in a really stategic location, it would be worth turning around.

But if not, and you're okay with burying the clean out (not supposed to), you might be able to simply add a new clean out several feet away where the access to it was outside the shower tiles.

Lined a plumber up to turn it around on Monday, I’m going to remove the sheet metal on the outside to provide access to the vent stack. Went ahead with the tile over it, felt like I was doing something wrong doing it though. Never know what you’ll find when you take on a renovation.
