To base or not to base that is the question

Hey guys. I have not posted here in a while but I am still in the tile biz after 40 years.
I have recently taken a job as a supervisor with a growing company.
The first job we did was a restaurant kitchen with standard 6x6 ground edge quarry with base.
The guys came in and ran all the field tile and left the base and cuts off to come back and do after the field was done. Not only that, they used a piece of base as a gauge to make the cut and wanted to come back and do the base the next day with rapid set
I was told this is the way it is done here.
After 40 years on the commercial end I may have seen this done a time or two but for the most part, regardless of the job or tile we always ran the base as we went.
I would like to see a show of hands who can tell me it’s better to do the cuts and base after the you run the field tile.
I need lots of answers.

Tom....It can be done either way. Much depends of the access hours, equipment to be moved, etc.

I'm with you, Tom. I would run the base as I went. That way everything sets up for grouting at the same time.
