This may belong in the idiocy watch.

Here on LI we missed the storm although we did get some 40 mph wind gusts and 15' ocean waves with vicious riptides.

A Long Beach LI policeman went swimming in the surf, claiming he could swim in anything. The waves bashed him into a stone jetty. Their still looking for him.

Whew! Got power back last night. Still no phone. They say maybe Thursday. Lot of trees down but at least in my neck of the woods, no major property damage despite the quantity and size of the trees that came down. Maybe now we can get back to the regularly schedule program...

Seems everybody's made it, well.. not exactly, this place has grown so much, I can't keep up with how many folks we have along that coast.

Idiocy watch indeed, Jim!!! Riptides alone are enough to make me wary. One of the first things I taught my girl was how best to get out of one. He's likely crab food by now.

John, there's a few New Orleanian's that could qualify as well, 'cept we'd have to have a crawfish boil as well

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.... our weather has just been splendid. High's in the 70's today, beautiful clear blue skies. Haha, I started to type bleu......as would be typical of me, right?

Well,..............

I guess its over (this time). Twenty known dead. The coastline and the Outer Banks destroyed. Curfews in place. No way to get to the heavily damaged areas....no roads left. Thousands of homes damaged. Hundreds destroyed or condemned to be destroyed. 2 million people without power.

Our capacity to endure is enormous, but our intelligence is questionable. Why do we continue to build (and build back) in such a fragile environment? The eco-system will recover without our help. The man-made stuff will recover with the spending of mountains of money..........just in time to be destroyed by the next great storm.

My place survived.......lost a bunch of brick mortar and thinset that was stacked and covered on my front porch and some more trees to add to the growing pile of firewood around the place.......power is back.......clean-up begins.

A Saturday that's sunny and just under 70...ahhhh...Smell the onset of fall? It's close enough to get the boys out in the woods scouting for the perfect location for bow season.

One of these days. We haven't been directly hit since 1983 when Alicia came to town. Every year that goes by, the populace becomes a bit more edgy as the hurricain season approaches. The odds are against us presently.

Why do I live here? Because I can't stand freezing my butt off, that's why.

Simply gorgeous.... in the 70's light breeze, full sunshine. Great beginning weekend for the State Fair of Texas. I may actually go this year, I so miss those deep fried turkey legs. And the ride on the Texas Star, a HUGE ferris wheel. 'course I'll have to ride that alone... can't get JJ 3 feet off the ground 'til she starts freakin' out, Texas Star, if I remember correctly is 245 ft.

Glorious day, all right. About 80 with a light breeze out of the northwest. Lots of sun. This is why we live here, I guess.

Amazing days in the Pacific Northwest. 88 today...not a cloud in the sky. Almost too warm.

Amazing...simply amazing!

88? I think global warming has hit the Northwest. Didn't get that warm the whole time I grew up there.
