The maples are really pretty right now. My Oak's have lost about 2/3 of their leaves.

We got 7.3 in. of rain in one night. I think that must be a record. Fortunately, it stopped in the morning.
That's all in the past, though. It is 3:30 PM Friday afternoon. Temp is 68. The sun is out. Just a few puffy white clouds on the horizon. Next week the temperatures will be back in the mid-seventies.

Yes john T but do you miss 18 degrees with a windchill of -2 Thats the real question
Ive lived in Northern Minnesota all my life and i still hate the wind.I wish they would just move North dakota out to oregon

18 degrees will freeze your butt off, period. Forget about the wind chill.
I do remember cross-country skiing in Alaska, though. We'd start out with several layers of clothing. It would be below zero, but the sun would be out. By the time you've been at it a half hour, you're down to your tee-shirt. No wind at all.
Gotta bundle back up when you quit, though.
Ah, those were the days. It was the wet look in hair dos. You didn't have to worry about getting a hair out of place. The whole do would freeze as soon as you walked out the door.

Tried cross country skiing out in Colorado yrs ago while in the AF, beautiful scenery up in the back country, but man what a workout. Body ached for 2 days. Ever tried parachuting John?
Been rainin on & off for 2 wks, and last couple of days really feels like winter is just around the corner. Yuck! Diggin out the insulated coveralls & boots today & put in the vehicle. Just facin up to the inevitible

I'm tryin' to talk her into a brief tour of SW Ar, SE OK next weekend. Weather ain't been all that conducive for brilliant colour, but still nice to be there.
Oh and didja know, the anthocyanates (one hormone) in the plants and their release (which brings about the colour) is directly and measureably related to the number of hours below 45degrees followed by number of hours of full sunlight the next day? We can actually forecast the brilliance of colour display on autmnal foliage.
Same goes in the spring. As a grower, I'd fool with the temp, CO2, and most importantly the drop in temp and to what degree in the last hour before sunrise. Amazing that they keep time.
Still more amazing (yet never surprising to me) that they have a communication network established not only from one plant to another, but a network that establishes boundaries to their predators as well.
Uhhh, have I gotten off subject? Anyway... I'd love to visit NE USA at this time of year, but you'd be amazed at what you can see just north of Central TX, AR, MO. Places that I can drive to in a weekend. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a shot of Central Park in NYC in the autumn. I'd like to think it's as good as it could be.
Now listen, I laid off the autumnal equinox thingy,,,but we still have the winter solstice coming up!!!
OK, OK,,, enough of my ramblings. Tomorrow I finish up this slate shower, I'll have pics.

Nice pic Bud!
I think that's the picture I started with when I made this globe. That was a while back when we were picking out logos for what became "Tile Your World". Did you read how they made that picture? If I recall correctly, it was a composit of 1000's of pictures taken at night of course but notice there are no clouds. They only used pics of cloud-less area's for the composit. The NASA site has some awesome photos.

Nice space pics guys, lots of very cool pics from the Hubble telescope on http://www.space.com also. As for the weather yuck, got to scrape the windshield again this morning. Headed down to Lake Ozarks, Mo. this morning, gonna take the camera & I ought to be able to get some real nice fall pics as the trees are just at peak around here.
Got to roll, cuz ya know the deal... I owe, I owe.......
