Finally! Was getting tired of the -24 degrees Fahrenheit and -55 wind chill around here. Cripes, that was chilly! Don’t know how the folks further north that get those temps more often than we do handle that.

The wind has shifted and it’s warmed to 14 degrees. Feels like a summer breeze.

Even Seattle got some snow today. We got 9 1/2” shown here.

Oh so funny Seattle-only behavior - I saw people shoveling their driveways and walks with the following: a leaf rake, a plywood board, a broom, and the funniest one was a leaf blower that was doing nothing. We don't own snow shovels here.

Wow!

When I was a kid in Seattle, shoveling off walkways was one of our ways to make extra change. Everybody had something to clear snow with, and almost every kid had a sled in the basement just itching for the first snowfall. Be y'all don't have tire chains either, do ya?

Climate change is indeed reality.

The lake tahoe area got 4 feet of snow in the past 24 hours. Storms like this are not unheard of in the area. Headed up there tomorrow to ski.

Southwest drought

Looks like southwest Oklahoma and north central Texas are dehydrated.

Naaa, just a little dry, Bodie, nothing to get excited about.

In Texas you get the average rainfall by adding the floods and the droughts and dividing by two.

What constitutes a normal year? Dunno, ain't never had one.

A few years ago, folks were talking drought and how ultra low Lake Michigan was. But these days, Lake Michigan is full to the brim. We've been boiling off the excess so it flies over and rains over the folks in the East.

Here in the Austin environs we have patches of official drought, but we've had it before. What gets me is the continuous number of days we've been beter'n'a hundred.

High today was in the low 70's, lows in the 50's...a bit cooler than normal, but not unheard of, either. I'm in upstate NY near Rochester right now. High Saturday is only predicted to be 71. I was in Texas in late June this year, it was hotter than I liked, and we had some of that in New England, too. I spent nearly 2-weeks in northern Italy near Milan the beginning of July building a gyroplane at the factory...no a/c, set some record high temperatures. Had Sunday free to myself and I walked outside, and decided it just wasn't worth it trying to be tourist, and spent the rest of the day in the hotel trying to stay cool. My plane is on a ship due into Boston next week...getting more and more excited to get it to my airport and in the air!

Last report showed Dorian at a CAT 5 storm, with peak winds of 180mph. It may skirt the coast and they MIGHT not get the full winds, still trying to estimate the path. Regardless, it looks like it will be ugly. Storm surge will still be significant, even if those winds aren't at the peak when they hit. Not sure how far up the coast it's going to be a factor.
