Huge avalanche on Mt. Hood Sunday night. I was riding up there yesterday, skipatrol finally opened the gates into heater canyon around noon and I was able to ride right down to the debris field, it looked like freakin mars, This is by far the largest slide I have ever seen. The slide originated at near 6,000' and the debris pile you see in the photo is where it came to rest at about the 4,000' mark.

We just had rain. Absolutely tipped it down.
For all of 27 seconds.
Then it stopped

Have had a few days of on again/off again rain. Storms from California have rolled in a little weaker than expected. Then today...whole new story.
Dust storms, rain, wind blowing stuff around. The biggie is due to hit in about an hour...expecting 60 mph winds and there are flash flood and tornado warnings.
Oh yeah, this is Arizona, not Oklahoma.
JB and Bubba...the news says the base of the Superstitions will be quite the show. Working on my kerdi kayak.

Buckle down Marge, sounds terrible out there.
Had some freeing drizzle throughout the day and this evening. Didn't affect the outdoor ice though. It was just a beautiful evening to watch an outdoor hockey game.

The pic I posted last year in my gold findin thread that looks like this...:
Looks like the second pic today. I hiked out there today to take a peek. When I first researched the river I came across a white water river rapid site that listed my little calm stream that I have hiked many times as one of only a few in california listed as a category 5 white water rapid. Thats as narly as it gets. I get it now. With this el nenio rain it has been showing its full potential. Santa Margarita River. The only un-damned, un-diverted river in california. Murrieta creek and Temecula creek form together to create this.
In the second pic, from my view point which I have visited several times...there used to be a young plethora of trees and other vegetation growing up the center of the river, bout 15-20 foot tall. All gone. Really impressive to witness the force of this water.
There were other shots I couldn't get today on my cellphone, that reminded me of being up north towards yosemite and some other wilder places. Wish I could have captured those images. The bottom right corner in the second pic is tame compared to other parts of the the river.

We have been watching that weather system move through CA and into AZ. We were shocked to see the big red tornado box on the border. Thought they got the SE and the SW confused. I hope everyone in that area is OK.

Ok, so the forecast says 8" of snow for our area. May not mean much to some of you folks who crawl out of your igloos and laugh at a foot, but it will SHUT DOWN our neck of the woods. You Yankees need to pull this cold front up ya'll's way.
