Sunny, 70s today. Had a glass of wine on the patio this evening. It was great for about 5 minutes before the skeeters came out. As you will recall we had just a wee bit of rain over the last two weeks. Close to two feet in two weeks I believe was the final total. We are still high and dry but there are pumps running within .25 miles on either side of us.

Neesie, I'm glad to hear you are still OK. I was thinking about you a week ago last Friday as we watched that weather system track across your area and then on up the coast toward the Wilmington, NC area. Our son's wedding was on the beach on the 11th and after a stormy night the sun came out in time for the wedding.

We have just been dumped on.

My neighbor woke us at 3:AM. The street was flooding, and my truck (parked on the street) was just about to be flooded. Water was up to the rocker panel on the low side. I was able to move it into a driveway across the street where it remained high and dry. Patti's truck (our dually) is parked safely in our driveway.

We have four feet of elevation from the top of the curb to the finished floor of the house, and the water occupied about a foot of it, so it didn't get near the house. The water has since receded, but another couple inches are on the way. We got about 6-7 inches earlier in the space of a couple hours.

Other neighbors were able to move their cars up onto front lawns. I've got one lodged in my front yard -- belongs to the guy who woke us up.

So we're in good shape, but you'll be hearing news of flooding in other parts of Houston. It's funny, but I was explaining what real rain is to somebody at Coverings the other day. People who don't live in tropical and sub-tropical areas really don't understand.

Why is this news?
Everybody should be used to being dumped on after the past eight years

suggest you strap a couple of pontoons down the side of both truck and trailer home and tell Patty you decided on a boating trip for the first week.

In the aftermath of the storm we have some folks whose homes got some water in them, nothing wide spread. Also, some low spots in roadways are still closed, but they will be open soon.

There were no confirmed fatalities. Somebody apparently saw a car with a woman in it being washed off the road, but all attempts to recover the vehicle and or body (if it really existed) have failed, and no one has been reported missing.

There has been no rain since, so the water has receded nicely. We are just about back to normal here in the sub-tropics. Temps in the low eighties. The sun is shining. The grass is greener. Patti and I still plan our departure on Monday.

Crazy, crazy, crazy!!!! Last year at this time we had not experienced a single day over 100 degrees. As of today we just broke a record...14 consecutive days in May OVER 100. We even had a monsoon last night and it looks like another is building right now. Sure hope this is not indicative of the next four months.

Crazy good now.....14 consecutive days in June UNDER 100 degrees. We've been able to have the windows open at night with amazing 60+ degree chilliness. Hasn't been this cool since 1913!!

But, the fantasy ends next week when we are destined to hit 105 plus and lows in the 90's.
