He looks a lot like a guy I worked with on a mall job for Port Morris. He was the foreman, forget his name but he and like 3 others got arrested for burglarizing stores.

Hammy- that is not competition, that is someone else that installs tile in the same geographic region as you. Nothing more.

Honestly, compared to some of the other hackery on here, that's a respectable install... That said, glad my name's not on it!

Hammy,
You should take those photos to the shop He works out of, and also give them this site.

here's the 550 footer we are ripping up today.
I would say 15 tile might be bonded to the slab in some corners of the room.
all else is hollow, the whole floor lifter with just the claw under it.
easy rip up

Looks like a lot of other Florida floors I see. 100's of them, actually, a few thousand this year alone when you count 4 seperate development projects.

good, because I like the work they are giving me
it's a shame these flooring centers use guys that are "less then qualified' to install their
tile just cause they have tools and a truck.

Dave or Brain are most of the failures you see. Due to cut-back and using the wrong setting material to bond to the cut-back? Hence the easy take up.

I just redid 1000 sf of tile that was 10 yrs old. Homeowner said they first thought someone was shooting a gun - just hearing the ping of tile popping. Tile wasn't bonded to slab at all - only to the dust on the floor.

I had another about 400' I looked at this weekend. Homeowner has a wedding planned at her house for grandkid I think and just wanted to fix the 20' or so that had tented until after the wedding. Once we started pulling those tiles up it was like we released the tension everywhere else - we had 2 lines of about 4-6 feet shoot up on either side of the ones we had taken up. It was kinda freaky.Homeowners are looking at tile tomorrow and we will work late next couple of days to get things put back together for them in time for the wedding.

I'll try to get some pics ....almost feel like I need to buy some hack lunch

Beaux - for me it isn't bonding to cut back thats been the problem it is either trying to bond to a dirty slab or allowing thin set to skim over.

mostly new construction jobs tiled in the boom and failures range from dusty slabs, cracked slabs, no membrane and sometimes tenting.
most are from the flooring centers leaving it up to the tile sub to buy thinset.
and what do you think the hacks are buying ?
Custom Blend or any cheap $7 bag they can find to set porcelain tile.
