No pics but I looked at a job the other day that is now my new ALL TIME WORST tile mistake made by a contractor.

We installed 2500sf of stone floors, and several custom showers in a very nice home 2 yrs ago.. Client feels sorry for out of work Mason doing some misc. work down the road...Mason offers to reseal clients stone floors for 100$...
Mason calls me to ask about Sealer turning "gummy" and how to fix it. Mason tells me he "poured" Mirramatte on the floor, spread it with a mop and left for the night.
I told him he could try Mirra Strip, and we sell it..But I think he's not gonna have much luck..He balks at the price of Mirra strip and says "I can get it off with Acid"

Client calls me that night crying ( literally) 1 Dog is dead, one is at the Vet..and the entire house is ruined.

Mason used Straight Muratic acid and slopped it everywhere..he left it overnight undiluted on the floor..came back next morning and put another coat on..That's when it was discovered the dog had died and every appliance in the house was rusting. It's so bad that the Flat screen Tv's don't work...
The Mason is not licensed and offered to "pay half the deductable"..

wow, I can see that happening too.
you cant breath the Muriatic acid fumes and it does pit anything stainless.
I'm sure all the electrical connector parts are rust and corroded over.
they call it "Muriatic acid vapor flash"

Simply stunning. This whole thread is like watching a train wreck in progress. You don't want to look, but you can't stop looking either.

That has to be the WORST one yet. Many of the posts here are bad and may cost a large amount of money to fix, but I don't think that any, other than some mold issues, were hazardous to life.

Would an insurance company even pay if the homeowners were honest and admitted they hired someone to do this job?

They had us over to consult and I called in our Lawyer who specializes in construction litigation. Sad part is they can't even stay in the house the fumes are so awful..The Lawyer said you cannot do anything at this point..not even nuetralize the floor. Home owner was willing to say they did it so there was no hassle with the claim but lying to an insurance company is fraud and they decided against that as advised by the Attorney.
Inspector has not determined if wiring ect. is still good but its looking like a massive claim.
2 kitchens and All appliances are Viking Pro ( even the toaster)..Custom made hammered copper apron sink is GREEN..every oil rubbed bronze hinge, screw and door knob, cab. hardware is coated with pits and rust. Even a VERY custom hand made on site iron stair railing is covered in rust.

And how about the (supposedly authentic) Knights Suite of Armor on display in the Entry..Yep Rusted too

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

So what options do these people have? The mason is out of work and probably has no insurance. Even if he did have insurance, they probably wouldn't pay. Their insurance is not going to pay. Who is gonna get stuck with the bill ..... one way or another, even if they sue, the home owners are gonna get stuck with a large expense.

It's amazing to me just how many people think that acid will clean/strip anything and with no side effects. Can't they smell? Read? Think?
