Nice Chad. Did you figure the tile layout before setting the drains or did you just get fortunate?

I assume there was planning involved but I always say to take credit for any accidents that turn out as full tile.

I told the plumber to set them apart to the nearest full inch. No 1/4" or 1/2" 53" 54" whatever just make it full inch. The layout just happened to work like I was hoping it would.

Kumla Swimming Pool - Sweden

Some pictures of a project in progress in Kumla Sweden.

This is the new Community In-door Pool in Kumla which is scheduled to be opened in December.

This contractor does 75% of all the new and re-modelling large commercial pool projects in Sweden and Laticrete is their preferred choice.

For them, the in-depth Laticrete technical support they receive as well as the quality & proven experience & history of the Laticrete products gives them 100% confidence to deliver the pool to the client right the first time.

Sweden is currently having a big push on building new community center swimming pools which are Swedish government and local government funded projects - the idea being that every child in Sweden will be able to swim by the age of 8.

Products used on the project: Laticrete Hydroban Waterproof Membrane, Laticrete 254 Platinum Thinset, Laticrete PermaColor Grout, Laticrete SpectraLOCK Grout, Laticrete Latasil Silcone Sealant.

In the "action picture" the tile installer is using Laticrete 254 Platinum thinset to install the Agrob Buchtel German tiles to the Hydroban waterproofing.

Due to the size of the area to be waterproofed the Laticrete Hydroban was spray applied. This is fast and productive as it is thinner than competitive waterproofing membranes, but is stronger. PermaColor grout will be used in the body of the pool with SpectraLOCK grout used at pool water level. This is a 50m / 150' pool.

Thanks for sharing that, Henry. Did the installers mention why they are using rope instead of reusable spacers for this installation? Is rope still common practice in Sweden?

That's the first time I've ever seen a competition size pool being done in anything other than 1x1's. Pretty sweet!

OK, so Shaughnn asks:

"why they are using rope instead of reusable spacers for this installation? Is rope still common practice in Sweden?"

A reply to Shaughnn's question from one of our key Laticrete people who visited the jobsite:

Ref: Rope

I asked the same question when I was at the project and there was no special reason other than rope is still commonly used with Tile Installers in Sweden for the grout joints. They do use spacers for domestic jobs, but on commercial projects contractors still use rope.

My comments:

Tile installers have been using rope as a "spacer" for many, many years !

Quick and easy to purchase in a wide range of sizes to create any size / width needed grout joint width.

Quick to place and quick to remove after installed of tiles has become firm !
