Really nice work there, you do seem to do a lotta subway tile! I like the shower, all the choices a design. Herringbone on the ceiling is sweet, as are the niches, doorway, everything. Floor is really sweet too. You are the man

I am still confused on the TLS on walls. Are you spreading the backs and burning the walls ? Just curious how much of the substrate unevenness
that the TLS will allow.

I do both Chad. I like to trowel the backs on walls cause I'm a pig and it helps me keep things cleaner. That said, I also do it the other way. I have to say on walls, is where the TLS really shines. Rarely do i need to pull a tile to fix the amount of thinset.

I am gonna agree, I have used it in 2 showers and it was amazing what it did. Member though I am not doing "mud" showers where the walls are perfect. I like the larger format tiles in that tub surround, and the niche the same way!

My only question is the placement of the niche, though I know the framing or where a homeowner wants it usually dictates where it ends up. Nice job!

That was the only place the niche could go. To the left of it is all exterior, as well as above it. the bay to the right has some kind of plumbing or hvac, i don't remember.

You don't need the TLS on mud. It would be a waste of time and money.

So your saying that its better for substrates that aren't perfectly flat and or plumb.

One pretty obvious point to consider whether walls or floor are somewhat uneven. I missed a step in not noticing that one shower wall had a low spot in it running vertically for three feet. Without the TLS I woul have placed the tiles and realized I needed to pad a few thicker to get flush. However since I was using TLS I pressed the tiles in well, not putting a straightedge to them, and let the TLS do my straightening for me. It did and all looked great. Straightedge was perfect.

Went to lunch and came back to see what looked like my 3x2 stack of tile on the side wall tipping a bit. I jiggled it and realized that the TLS was strong enough to pull the tiles away from the low spot so I popped off the TLS and started over by skimming the dip with some fastset and starting over. All was good and my lesson learned. Now if my Kerdied wall has any dips if there is time I skim and drag a straightedge to flush out for sure in prep for TLS, or just butter heavier when std setting.
