Looking good LT , did you get all that shower wall and the accent set in one day?
Tilepro- very nice, welcome aboard, maybe we can get a few more Hawaii guys. Gotta catch up with PA and WA.
Nice to see some mud shower walls.

Tilepro,
Welcome aboard. Got any pics of the mud work? Did you mud the bath floor too?

A front step in slate I did yesterday. A couple more of these and I'll get the XT Revolution saw! Still have to grout and seal it.

Steps look great Lakeside! Hope they give you a bonus! You took that entry up a notch for sure.
I did full mortar installation on the entire home, John. Is there some other way that I'm not aware of? =)

Here are a couple of other shots from the same project. That Basalt tile in the Powder was new to me. They call it Downpour. The light box I made from the 3form resin panels. That stuff is cool to work with also.

Thanks Tilepro.
In my opinion, full mortar bed installs give you the best looking and longest lasting job. The issue now days is cost. Most do not want to pay.
Try installing terrazzo without a mortar bed. ( does this terrazzo look level?!?!)

I hear you man. This house is owned by one of the board of directors for Costco. These clients (and ones like them) expect perfection. It must be tough to compete these days. When I started everything was mud. If you didn't have the skills to sling it, you didn't tile. Now with HD and HGTV everyone thinks their a tile man. Mud is what sets me apart and it still impresses those who know the difference. I felt 18 years ago that I was watching the death of a trade. That is not true, of course, but looking around at all the new products you all are using, I have seen a transformation of a trade. I firmly believe that if you find a solid method, PERFECT IT. Repeat that method over and over until you become efficient. Efficiency will bring speed. Speed will bring money.

Bobby, for your stone floors do you mud set or float then thinset?
How big of a crew do you have?

If I am involved with the home from plan stage, I set them up for mortar. This house has 24" seabed limestone so it had to 1 1/2" mud imo.
I work alone. I have a 20 year old son that packs mud for me occasionally. I wanted him to be a setter but he chose surf instructor instead. Not sure I blame him. =) I had a temp employee work on this project with us to pack mud and move tile around.

LT side note- you watching Waipahu beating up Texas in the little league world series?
Of course it is just the 3rd inning. But it is 7-0 Hawaii.
Now back to our regular scheduled program.

LT, looks good. What is the blue wp membrane on the walls? Also, did the HO specify that layout?

L.T. does a Laticrete hybrid with hydrobarrier (blue) in the field and hydroban (green) in the corners.
Lakeside, looks good. And I like the red house numbers and mailbox as well.
tilepro- that's the difference between working for millionaires and billionaires.
