Putting in a bid on this ceiling, going to rent a scissor lift for it. I was awarded the bathrooms in the house but thinking of doing a time and material bid on the ceiling with a max cap so they have some comfort of it not going too high

If you are doing time and material I wouldn’t cap it. That’s the trade off for them, otherwise bid accordingly and make sure you are covered. Stuff like that could run a week over no problem.

I'm with Jeff. Your reputation and skill that landed you the job are your leverage to bid the job like you want.

Unless you're up against someone else I would be a lot more comfortable knowing there is no cap and potential loss of profit. You run into a snag and all of a sudden that cap comes to mind and that can affect performance. At least it can with me. Sometimes it will give the homeowner thoughts on subtle changes that can add work for you, thinking it won't cost anything extra.

Nice job though. You're fortunate they laid the house on it's side for you. Considerably harder if you have to work above your head.

I will take ya'lls advice and not cap it, I bid the bathrooms accurately but higher than my surrounding competition. This is a first time job with said contractor and although he said I was high did want me to do the job.

I feel the level of detail and questions I've presented to prevent any potential issues to other trades in the future have already confirmed I was the right choice to him. It's easy to talk yourself out of a legitimate bid and price point when you run it in your head a couple times. Thank you for the clarity!

I agree with the others, no way I would put a cap on it. They have given you the bathrooms which shows they trust you. They probably realize that tiling a ceiling like that is out of the ordinary and tough to put a firm number on.

You do excellent work, your prices should be higher than the others. It takes more time to do good work and they know you're worth it. Buying a Cadillac for the price of a Chevrolet comes to mind. Ain't gonna happen.

Been doing backsplashes like crazy this year in the Tampa, Florida area.
This customer purchase an inexpensive 3x17 Ordino Beige porcelain tile that had the look of a stacked stone.
I matched the grout color to the fake joints in the tile so you couldn't tell.
They re-did their kitchen and I think the look came out nice for their Temple Terrace, Florida home.

That looks like the real thing. What they're doin with porcelain today is pretty cool. I walked into a store a while back and tjhey had what looked like a big ol slab of Calacatta Gold. I was surprised to find out it was porcelain. Looked real even close up.

Yeah its the HDP (High Definition Printing) or inkjet technology they use. crazy definition.

When I took a tour of the manufacturing plant at Stone peak in Crossville TN they said that that could ink jet anything you wanted on a thin porcelain panel.

I can believe that these days. I know 20 years ago the patterns on the tiles were all pixelated to fade out and the coloring was limited. Now with these new HDP wood looking planks I put on my glasses and look at the knot closely and it looks like a realistic wood knot.

Speaking of realistic wood knots:

My first shot at a barn door effect in a plank shower. I drew it out on the wall first to see if it would work with the niche. The niche was a 2X6 wall so deeper than normal but not outside wall. The outside of the wall is actually a king king size garage two stories high, they have lots of toys. I had granite accents made for niche shelf and curb but used tile since I didn't want to take the barn effect away.
