I'm always more amazed at them old guys who created entire human statues from stone, and they had no steenkin' Dremel tools or pneumatic chisels. A gift I was clearly not given.

Very old sculptor was once asked how one could possibly carve an elephant from stone. Said he: "Is easy to carve elephant. You get large piece of stone and you chip away all that which does not look like elephant."
And in reality, that's all it takes, but................

Sounds easy enough.  The last bear I tried to chain carve had a head that looked more like a dog and was too big for the short legs I gave him.

That's impressive!
How the hell can you see something like that in a stump?!! I can barely see it now that it's done.
I can make a pretty good cube on the table saw.
Davy, out in The Ruidoso, NM, area where I usta work every Spring, seems everybody and his cousin made chainsaw bears. Some of them rather good. And interesting to watch.
