New Bathroom project - marble tile shower/shower floor question!

Hey guys, you have come highly recommended from several places!

I was searching through trying to find the right thread (which I am sure is out there), maybe someone can point me in the right direction or help!

The wife has requested I reno our master bath, part of this project would be moving the shower location and pretty much starting from scratch.

I have tiled and worked with marble (just tiling a floor) and understand that process, but installing a new shower seems to be much more difficult! #waterproofing #showerpan

Should I purchase a Kerdi shower pan, or is it just fine to use the roll off water proofing? I would need to slope the shower floor first of course. Am i in wayyyyy too far over my head on this project?

Welcome to the forum, Matt.

You might be in over your head if you don't take some time to educate yourself on proper shower waterproofing. Easy enough to do hereabouts, though, if you're willing to put in the time.

And if you can't find what you're looking for, or don't completely understand what you find, that's what we're here for. You can start your own thread (which you've already done) and ask as many questions as you want.

I would advise you to move over to the shower construction thread in the Liberry and start reading up on how to build a shower. If, after reading everything there, you feel completely overwhelmed, it might be best to consider hiring someone. There will be a lot more to remodeling your bathroom than what you'll find in that thread, but it's a good place to start.

You'll begin by choosing a waterproofing system, then move forward from there.

Matt, you might check out Schluter's site. They have some great videos on how to build their showers.

Marble tile in shower

Guy guys! I've been putting in the work and learning. I think this is up to debate, but should I be using a light colored marble in the shower (for the walls)?

I understand there would be some extra maintenance involved!

Good going, Matt.

Sorry we missed your earlier question. Have you already chosen the tile? We typically recommend against using marble in a shower, due to the maintenance issues. It's very susceptible to staining from the soap and oils, as well as mineral deposits in the water supply.

Hi Matt. You say you're waterproofed up. Just to help us answer future questions, which installation method did you decide to use?

What Kevin said about using marble. There are many porcelain tiles that have a stone look that would be much easier to maintain and that also have a matching bullnose available.
