An update from Joe (former moderator)
Hi all! Guess it has been a while since I have been on the forum.
For those that recall, I work in the theater business, running two venues in Concord, NH doing upwards of 300 live events per year. Well, until the pandemic of course. We laid off two thirds of our staff and only in the last few months have we been able to reopen and bring some of our staff back to work.
All in all a pretty stressful time of it with a lot of my time working behind the scenes with the theater community and the various government folks to work out all of the covid guidance for our facilities.
If I have time this winter, and I might, I will be redoing two bathrooms in our house. Been a while since I have done any tiling. Luckily, I know the forum is here for when I need it!

Glad to hear you're doing well, Joe, and glad you stopped by. Might be a good idea for you to do it a bit more often. As one former moderator to another, I can honestly say we miss you and your contributions here.

Joe, it's good to know you're still in business. I suspect that quite a few small theater outfits have disappeared.

I do miss being around here on the forum. Doing another show today in our big theatre (1,300 seats). I will try to stop by more often...and may find myself with time to actually do that. About a week or two away from deciding whether to retire.
Picture from today's show:

A week or two from deciding whether to retire? Bust out the red wine.
Wait, Marge whispered in my ear and said "no, don't say that, Bubba!"

There is no retirement. It's a big lie.

I know I won't be able to sit still but I am leaving the theater where I currently work. Probably wrapping up my time there by late November.
After that I think I will finish some renovations to the house - reworking the bedrooms and bathrooms and will move our laundry out of the basement. It will be a good project to do over the Winter months.
As for regular work I'm not in a rush to get another job. Several months off will be nice, maybe longer.

Theater business is tough business these days. I'm glad that you've been able to pull through so far.

December 10 was my last day working. I am now in my first week of semi-retirement. I'll start doing some consulting work for a few theaters to stay a bit active. I don't plan on taking on full-time work again, or at least not for a year or so.
I have some small projects to finish around the house in the next few weeks. After the new year begins, I'll be tackling a couple of bathroom and bedroom projects in the house. I'll start a project thread for those.
I also decided to hike the Appalachian Trail in 2022. I'll be going from Maine to Georgia starting in June. It has been on my bucket list for a long time and I'm glad to finally have the time and resources to get it done.

Well, good on your for being able to afford to retar, Joe.
As for the Appalachian Trail, all I can say is that there are paved highways that go alla way from Main to Georgia. Hell, alla way to south Florida if a fella just wants to go south. Lot faster. Lot easier. No reason a fella needs to walk that far these days. And it ain't like you can be the first to do it or any such, eh?
