joint material

Hey guys,
Got a call from a client we did a ton of stone in, the only stuff we didnt do was the fireplaces(riverrock) So the mortar in the face and sides is rubbing off, and the installer is saying it was a bad bag of mortar, and wont come back to fix it. I want to help, these are long term clients but Im no stone mason, Im a tilesetter.... I want a mortar that is exceptional with high heat, fibre content for strength and definitley something that wont rub off. Any ideas? I talked to the mapei rep and he said Ultracolour HTC with an additive might be a go, but he didnt sound so confident about the application (this is a huge fireplace, wood burning)

Haven't used it but Laticrete has a masonry veneer system of products that might be just what you need.
if you do go this route let us know about your experience. I for one am quite curious.

Traci , Is the so called bad batch of mortar from the stone mason near the firebox? How wide are the joints? Is it natural river rock or man made? What is behind the stone ? Durarock, Concrete block etc? Jimbo
