first time tiler pics

Is there a rule of thumb of when to use sanded or non-sanded grout. Is it tied to the size of the joint? This is my first tile job and read a couple of books, but none are real specific. Also, when is caulking used instead of grout? The mosaic tile has preset 1/8 but larger tiles are 1/16. I've been advised by a member to return sanded.Help always appreciated.

The standard rules for cement-based grouts call for unsanded grout in joints 1/8" or less. Sanded grout (which shrinks less) in joints 1/8" or more. 1/8" joints are grouter's choice.

Normally all joints at changes of materials or plane are caulked, not grouted. This includes wall corners, wall/ceiling, wall/floor, wall/tub deck, floor/threshold and similar places. These joints get caulked because there is more chance for movement there.
