Flexcolor CQ

Hi All,

I recently did a bathroom renovation. A full gut of the shower, replaced with a Wedi shower pan, wedi shower walls (water tested for leaks), Ardex 77 thinset, and Flexcolor CQ.

I’m on the fence about the Flexcolor. I already used it, but I’m not convinced I won’t have any problems in the future. I tried using the search function on the forum, but I can’t find anything that puts me at ease.

Has anyone had any issues with the product? Any success? Are people using it as their go to grout?

Thanks

If you've already used the Flexcolor product, I'm not sure just what your options might be.

If you type flexcolor into the Advanced Search feature and ask for Titles you'll find a couple dozen threads about the product, one of which has more than 400 posts in the Professionals' Hangout. That one alone should give you a pretty good overall feel for the product. You could then alter your search to Entire Posts and get several hundred more comments, one of which might answer whatever question it is you're having.

I’ll try the search feature again. I’m pretty sure my questions were different but maybe I’m wrong. And no, I’m not referring to that job I did over a year ago, that’s why I created a new thread.

I would say since you've already used it, just make sure and allow proper curing time before using the shower. I have a couple jobs from many years ago in which i used CQ that have held up, but I steer clear of premixed grouts these days.

Thanks,

Moving forward I too will steer clear, only because I don’t need to lose sleep over my grout choices. It’s been curing since 12/12 actually (install date) and since the shower door won’t be coming till after January 6 I think this thing should be fully cured by the time it’s used.

Thanks again for your reply.

Flexcolor is all we use in every shower we build. Been using it exclusively since it hit the market.

I use both Fusion Pro and Flexcolor CQ and have for several years now. Both work great.

Until earlier this year, I ran Technical Services for MAPEI and saw all of the claims that came through on all of their products. Flexcolor CQ is one of MAPEI's best selling products and it just didn't have that many claims despite being installed in hundreds of thousands of showers. They had far more claims on cement grouts (generally for color issues due to improper water content/mixing/cleaning) than Flexcolor CQ. I installed it throughout my house in Florida and it looked as good five years later as it did the day after I finished grouting despite dogs and kids and water. Even with no longer having a stake in what anyone uses, I can tell you in good conscience that it's a great product with minimal issues even in showers, just follow the TDS.

Reach out

I attest to Dan's comments, we have a very amount of claims on Flexcolor CQ. Assuming it was installed correctly and allowed to cure before the shower is used, it should perform, great. when in doubt, reach out to MAPEI Product Support: productsupport@mapei.com or 800-992-6273

I too lose sleep at night thinking about all my installs with flexcolor cq. I have never had a failure in the few years since I started using it. My only concern is keeping lowes and suppliers from having old or returned stuff sitting on the shelf. I noticed recently they removed the production date off the container. Always made me feel good to grab the newest bucket they had on the shelf. We have gotten in the habit of never reusing flexcolor cq once we have cracked open a container. Its used on that job as soon as its opened and only that job. I save the leftovers for stuff at my own house or a backsplash here and there. Overall I am hooked and hope it just continues to be such a success!

What is the best way to clean flexcolor?? I applied avalanche white last year and it has gotten pretty dirty from foot traffic.

Thanks Jim.

What if the tile is natural marble mosaics? The tile is quite soft and scratches/etches easily.
