What product to use over radiant heat mat

Hi all:

My husband and I are installing a travertine tile pattern (various sizes ranging for 8" x 8" up to 16" x 24") in our bathroom. We have put down Hardibacker board over subfloor and also put down a SunTouch radiant mat(with orange webbing) on top of hardibacker, electrical wiring is complete and secured the mat around the edges with thinset mortar mix in preparation for tiling. My/our question is: Would it be best to use just thinset mortar on the mat and then set the tiles or some other type of self leveling product? We plan to do this tomorrow morning so any replies are appreciated ASAP.

I have found that it is much easier to use a self leveling cement first to cover up the mat and have a nice working surface.

If you are planning to do this tomorrow, use a modified thinset. SLC takes more planning and preparation. While you may technically have time to do it with SLC, you'll be rushed and potentially botch the job and ruin your heat mat.

Just a do-it-yourselfer here, but I've always read to go with SLC unless you're a pretty experienced tiler.
