Tile tub surround question.

I am remodeling my bathroom. It is a complete tear out. I will be installing the new tub this weekend.

1. I will be using durock for my bath tub surround in a 3 wall alcove. I understand that putting a vapor barrier over faced insulation is a no no.
I have faced insulation on the long wall, its an outside wall, what should I use for a vapor barrier? Should I just replace the faced insulation with unfaced and use 6 mil poly for the barrier?

2. Does the durock extend past the front edge of the tub a couple of inches or flush?

3. What is the advantage of putting kerdi over the durock?
All my other questions were answered by using the search, what a great DIY forum!

Hi Dan, you can cut some slits in the paper and put poly on the walls then the CBU. If you want to use Kerdi, fergit the CBU and use drywall and Kerdi over it.

And if you use Kerdi, forget the poly barrier too.

Already have the CB so I'll just stick with that.
