BBQ for homeless vets
Howdy all, just checking in from Detroit. I'm downtown at a the Michigan Veterans Foundation doing an all night cook for the veterans. We got the pork on the smoker at about 9:15 pm and anticipate an 11 hour cook. We're also going to cook a mess of chicken quarters tomorrow.
I'll post some pics when I get back home to a computer.
Oh yeah, I can see Tiger Stadium from here.

Good on you Dave, you're a great American.
Why in the whirl are there "homeless vets"? Shouldn't that term be an oxymoron?
Still got that pic of Stan enjoying the orange cake. That was five years ago, I bet that boy's gettin' big eh?

Way to go Dave, Volunteering to help others is what makes the world great and who better to help but those who helped us!

I'm a vet, and I'm homeless!
Well, not really. I sold my house out from under myself, and I'm now living in my RV while I build a new house in the Texas Hill Country.
I admire you, Dave, for lots of things, but this has to be one of the best of 'em.

Our place is in Rosanky, Texas . . . on State Highway 304 20 miles south of Bastrop, 16 miles north of I-10. It's country but not isolated. I'm building a shop right now, and when that's finished I'll start on the house. We previously built a one RV RV park with full hookups. That is my home.

It was a great event. I'm afraid that by Saturday morning I was a bit loopy as I'd only slept about an hour in a chair next to the big smoker.
The folks there were most appreciative of the food, but not nearly as appreciative as we are for their service. I had to snag somebody else's pics, mine didn't turn out well.
Here are the smokers that got loaded up with a total of 24 pork butts.
We did chicken in ugly drum smokers.
Here's the cook team, and the organizers with a couple of the veterans.
