Usually when I tear out showers that have been set with mastic, mold is also present.

When I removed the tiles in my 50 year old bathroom surround they were held together with mastic...and I had a hell of a time tearing off...to the point I gave up and tore the plaster off too... maybe old mastic wasn't acrylic?
