Ceramic Screw covers

Have a job restoring a "Columbarium" .... a wall of small vaults containing cremation ashes.

The vaults are covered with religious tiles or tablets and affixed at the corners with screws which are covered by small ceramic caps or screw covers .... many of which have fallen out.

Therein lies the problem ... can't for the life of me find suitable replacement screw caps ... They resemble very small mushrooms maybe 5/8 across, with a 1/4" shank on the bottom that fits (with the help of adhesive) into the screw hole in the tile.

These happen to be a brownish color ... but at this point I'd take anything including a bisqued ceramic that would have to glazed ... or even a different color.

Any suggestions for a source or supplier would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know about a supplier, but what about finding a similar colored pillowed type tile and using a 1/2" hole saw to cut out plugs and make your own.

A possibility ... although wouldn't it have to be an approximately 3/8" hole saw instead of a 1/2" if I understand correctly what you're suggesting. Or is the point that a 1/2" saw will leave me with a 1/4" "plug" ... at this point I have neither. (My understanding is that hole saws for ceramic ... unlike plug cutters for wood .. are sized for the hole they leave as opposed to the "plug").

Still hoping for a supplier ... need 150+ caps.

Thanks,

Dan B

Hi Dan,

For that many pieces it might make sense to have a ceramic shop make them for you.

Hi Dan,

For that many pieces it might make sense to have a ceramic shop make them for you. They don't have to fit in the hole; they could be buttons you just glue over the hole.
