Kerdi technique

Do you guys spread mortar like this before laying fabric?? I've never thought about it this way.

Also, doesn't the mortar look WAY too runny? It was literally dripping.

Hi Mike,

When I was first Schluterized in 2002, Peter Nielsen, then general manager of Schluter, did the training sessions himself. I remember him mixing the thinset loose but not as loose as in the video. I've always mixed mine looser than a lot of folks, and I've never had any problems. I've done a lot of Kerdi showers and a few Durock showers.

The guy is a great carpenter. That doesn't make him a knowledgeable tile setter. When you can't get the trowel to the wall without half your thinset running off it's just plain too loose.

I met the whole team at IBS / KBIS last year in the Festool trailer. They were all super friendly and took the time for a photo. I was super excited to meet them.

I really with there was a way to properly orient photos here...

Sorry about the photo rotation problem, Mike. I rotated it.

I’m going to guess the phone was rotated 180 degrees between these two photos. Your phone has no problem telling which side is up, but the vBulletin software that runs a lot of forums has an issue with that. We keep hoping an update will be made to include fixing this problem.

Anyways: that’s super cool to meet some of the cast! I met Norm Abram years ago and he was the same way: willing to take time to meet some of the fans.
