Tiling/decking up to plastic tub.

I have a corner jetted tub - it's basically a irregular pentagon in the corner (think new construction master bath, but not real high end). I am curious if it's possible/wise to deck up to it - and or across the front of it.

It's not a drop in, or "stand alone" in that you set it in anything. I think it might be classified as a skirted jetted tub. The walls are tiled so I'm guessing it has a tile flange on the 2 wall sides, but is there any way to create a tile flange on the other surfaces to build a small deck around it?

Any thoughts?

Hi Jeff, Welcome aboard.

Anything done on the open sides would go under the lip and not up to it. Yes, it's possible to do a "deck." Maybe post a picture?

Build up to that detail below the actual top of the tub. Set it down a little so that your tile would go to the tub and caulk be the finish. It may not look exactly like a drop-in but at least no water will get behind the "deck".

Great, that's sort of what I was hoping to hear. Honestly we don't use it, but I don't want to remove it either as for some reason I'm sure it keeps resale value.

we had a cheap shower in the opposite corner and I'm hoping to expand that and integrate a deck around the tub that flows into a seat in the shower with some frameless glass.

I realized I'll still have to allow access.

Check with your local realtors about resale value. We tear LOTS of those out as they never get used and a huge walk in shower is preferred. Or widening the sink area as we did on our last job.

Thanks for the product suggestion and for the picture. That's very like what I'm planning on doing...assuming the glass wasn't installed yet.

I really appreciate the help. I'm going to have more questions now that I've committed to the job (meaning I tore out the shower pan, and most of the old tile in the shower).
